Ice
There are many forms of ice, but for our purposes we stick to one. We need large crystals as these give the maximum clarity. Large crystals come from ice that has been grown slowly and the water is moving.
Where we mould ice sculptures we use very pure water made using a reverse osmosis apparatus. This will reduce the p.p.m. dissolved solids from 3/500 down to less than 10. Virtually all impurities are removed including many bacteria. The result is almost medically pure water. This enables us to freeze 100% of the mould water which would be very difficult otherwise. Moulded ice pieces are frozen at between -8ºC and -10ºC and this gives a large crystal which under certain circumstances can be extracted and even when up to 30 cm long no distortion can be discerned when items are viewed as though through a telescope. Many ice pieces are made via a computer guided cutting machine and if the ice is kept at around -6ºC to -8ºC a very good finish can be achieved. At a lower temperature the ice would be liable to cracking or splintering and difficult to use.
Mass Production
Ice goblets for serving drinks are becoming a very popular feature but for a large event you may need thousands of them. We have therefore developed a technique for mass producing them by the thousand, packaging them up in pallet loads and delivering them safely all over Europe.
CAD/CAM production
Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture are familiar techniques in the manufacturing industries when you want to be able to accurately reproduce a wide range of objects.
Applying that to Ice was a great challenge, but the benefit is that we can offer a very wide range of products at very competitive prices, without any sacrifice of the high standards of finish that our customers expect from us.
Embossing
